How does the judging work?
Teams are evaluated based on the reported values for the unknown weak acid used in the preliminary titration investigation within their respective state or territory. The ranking is determined by how closely the teams approximate the actual concentration for each acid. Although there may be slight variations in the volumetric analyses from state to state, the requirements remain equivalent.
Top-performing teams in each state or territory competition are anticipated to receive invitations to the national finals held in Term 3. During the finals, all participating teams engage in the same analysis using provided samples of solid potassium hydrogen phthalate. This analysis can be conducted either at university campuses or at school, depending on the circumstances.
The announcement of the National Titration winners is scheduled for the beginning of Term 4. Every national finalist is awarded a gold or silver badge, and teams receive a plaque, while certificates are presented to recognize outstanding achievements.
