Ray came to Victoria to lecture chemistry to Churchill students in 1975 rising to Associate Professor. Earlier, he researched spectroscopy at BHP’s Research Labs from 1959 and gained BSc, studied catalysis for his NSW PhD and UK postdoc. For BHP, he developed fine wire analysis by OES and for teaching, a low-cost spectrometer. Ray also piloted light aircraft for 60 years, establishing aerial fire spotting with APM and gained petrol approval as alternative for avgas.

The truism that the more put in, the more you get out is particularly applicable to membership of RACI. Membership of the RACI can be as basic as receiving news of events and having ready access to Chemistry in Australia.  However, my experience has been that in being active on Division, State Branch or Group/Section committees, it is possible to meet other members within the discipline or interest in organising events... This is of great benefit in gaining organisational and logistics skills and broadening your network. The organisation of events also means you can readily approach senior people as a representative of RACI.  It may not be possible to gain such access in representing your own organisation or yourself... These days a personal network is essential for on-going professional life and career progress.  Active membership of the RACI significantly contributes to this.

I have over 145 peer-reviewed publications and co-authored Understanding Wine Chemistry, a modern wine chemistry textbook used internationally in wine science programs. I have received awards for excellence in research student supervisory practice, distinguished contribution to grape and wine research and teaching, and excellence in analytical chemistry.

Dave is Professor of Biochemistry and Chemistry at La Trobe University, Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham, and Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at Monash University. He applies computational chemistry, AI, and machine learning to the design of drugs, agrochemicals, electrooptic materials, nanomaterials, green corrosion inhibitors, catalysts, and biomaterials. His is a recipient of an ACS Skolnik award, a Royal Australian Chemical Institute Distinguished Fellowship, and the AMMA Medal. He has written >300 journal articles and book chapters (6 ISI Highly Cited), is an inventor on 25 patents and has an h-index of 69.

Dr Grant Douglas (Eutectiq) was formerly a CSIRO Senior Principal Research Scientist with >35 years experience in geochemistry, isotopes, and wastewater remediation. He has undertaken PFAS characterisation in concrete and asphalt for the AU/US DoDs. Dr Douglas developed P-adsorbent Phoslock™ to mitigate algal blooms, used in over 25 countries. He commercialised Virtual Curtain, currently a US DoE/NAWI project. He has >100 journal articles/book chapters, five patents, with >100 media interviews.

Sam Adeloju is a distinguished chemistry educator, researcher, and higher education leader with recognised international contributions in conducting polymers, nanobiosensors, electroanalytical chemistry, and microbial fuel cells. Multiple RACI Medal recipient: Applied Research Medal (2009), R.H. Stokes Medal for Electrochemistry (2011), Doreen Clark Medal for Analytical Chemistry (2013) and a Citation for Excellence in Leadership & Service (2017). Appointed Senior Foreign Expert under the China Talent-1000 Program (2010-2015). Currently, Adjunct Professor and Editor-in-Chief of three international journals.

Professor Gabrielle McMullen AM FRACI BSc (Hons) PhD (Monash University) DUniv (Honoris Causa) (ACU)

Following postdoctoral research in Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, Gabrielle McMullen joined the Department of Biochemistry at Monash University and also became Dean of its Catholic residence, Mannix College, in 1981. She was then Rector of Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) Ballarat campus from 1995-2000 and its Pro- and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) until February 2011. Following her retirement from ACU, she was firstly a Trustee of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and is now a Trustee Director of Mercy Ministry Companions.

Gabrielle’s other community contributions have encompassed membership of education, health, theology and community service boards. Her current roles include chair of the Australian Catholic Council for Pastoral Research and of the members of Emerging Futures Collaborative Ltd, member of PNG’s Divine Word University Council, of the University of Divinity Council (and its Deputy Chancellor), and of the Missionary Sisters of Service Stewardship Council, Trustee of the Opening the Doors Foundation, Director of Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Ltd, and President of the Australian Association of von Humboldt Fellows.
